On February 24, 1969, a Handley Page Herald had an accident on Far Eastern Air Transport Flight 104 from Kaohsiung to Taipei .

About 10 minutes after take-off from Kaohsiung, engine no. 2 failed. The associated propeller, however, did not come into the sail position . When the engine failed, the HPR-7 began a slow descent. The pilots wanted to make an emergency landing at Tainan Airport . During the approach, however, there was a belly landing in a clearing after narrowly missing a forest. The machine slipped into a river bed, broke in three pieces and caught fire. All 36 occupants on board died.
