Far Eastern Air Transport ( FEAT or FAT , Chinese 臺灣 遠東 航空 ) was a Taiwanese airline based in Taipei and based at Taipei-Songshan Airport .
history
The airline was founded in 1957 as a charter airline and began flight operations in November of the same year. It made its first scheduled flights in January 1965. Due to financial problems, she ceased flight operations on May 13, 2008. On April 18, 2011, flight operations on the Taipei - Kinmen route were resumed.
On February 28, 2018, it was announced that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies would be accepted as a means of payment when booking flights .
FEAT ceased operations on December 13, 2019 due to ongoing losses and difficulty in raising new funding. In addition to domestic flights, the company also operated flights to Vietnam, Japan, South Korea and China in November.

Incidents
Far Eastern Air Transport recorded at least 9 total aircraft losses in its history up to the cessation of operations in December 2019, of which 5 with 212 fatalities. Examples:
- On February 24, 1969, a Far Eastern Air Transport Handley Page Herald ( aircraft registration number B-2009 ) crashed on a flight from Kaohsiung to Taipei in a failed emergency landing near Tainan . All 32 passengers and the four crew members were killed (see also Far Eastern Air Transport Flight 104 ) .
- On July 31, 1975, a Vickers Viscount 837 of Far Eastern Air Transport (FEAT) (B-2029) had an accident while landing at Taipei-Songshan Airport ( Taiwan ). The machine coming from Hualien Airport stalled in a heavy rain field ; the plane crashed on the runway. Of the 75 inmates, 27 died and 48 survived.
- On August 26, 1980, a Vickers Viscount 812 , which FEAT had leased to the Indonesian Bouraq Indonesia Airlines as PK-IVS , crashed about 26 kilometers northeast of the destination Jakarta-Kemayoran airport after a complete loss of control . The cause was the breaking off of the right elevator, caused by the breakage of the centering pin of the right Flettner rudder . This had exceeded its permissible flight hour limit of 12,000 hours by 21,000 hours, almost twice as much. All 37 occupants (6 crew members and 31 passengers) were killed as a result of this maintenance error (see also the flight accident involving Bouraq Indonesia Airlines in 1980 ) .
- On August 22, 1981, a Far Eastern Air Transport Boeing 737 (B-2603) had an accident on the flight from Taipei to Kaohsiung as a result of a structural failure in the air caused by corrosion. Of the 104 passengers, including the Japanese writer Kuniko Mukōda , and the six crew members, none survived (see also Far Eastern Air Transport Flight 103 ) .
