La Farga de l'Arión

The Farga del Arión is a living European olive tree in the Catalan municipality of Ulldecona . With an estimated age of more than 1700 years, it is the oldest olive tree on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the oldest olive trees in the world.

In 1997 the Generalitat de Catalunya declared the olive tree a monumental tree .

According to a 2015 scientific study by the Polytechnic University of Madrid , the Farga del Arión is estimated to be more than 1700 years old and is believed to have been planted during the year 314 during the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great .
