Farhad Daftary

Farhad Daftary (* 1938 ; Persian فرهاد دفترى, DMG Farhad Daftari ) is a to the Islamic denomination of Ismailitentums specialized Islam scientists .

Daftary earned his Ph.D. 1971 at the University of California, Berkeley . He is Vice Director and Head of the Department of Academic Research and Publications at the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London .

He is the author of an important history of Ismailis, The Isma'ilis: their history and doctrines . His basic introduction, Brief History of the Ismailis, was published in German . His books have been translated into Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu , Gujarati, and several European languages.

He is the consultant editor of Encyclopaedia Iranica , co-editor (with Wilferd Madelung ) of Encyclopaedia Islamica and chief editor of the two book series Ismaili Heritage Series and Ismaili Texts and Translations Series . He was one of the signatories to the Amman Embassy .
