Farida Khanum

Farida Khanum (* 1935 in Kolkata ) is a Pakistani ghazel singer and is known as the "Queen of the Ghazel" ( Malika-e-Ghazal ).

Khanum was born in Kolkata. However, her family comes from Amritsar , where she grew up and emigrated to Rawalpindi in Pakistan in 1947 when India was partitioned . In 1950 she gave her first concert with well-known singers such as Zeenat Begum and Iqbal Begum . After getting married in the mid-1950s, she moved to Lahore . She was forbidden from public appearances by her husband. She was only allowed to sing in front of an audience again from 1964.
