Farpoint Observatory

The Farpoint Observatory (Farpoint Observatory) is an astronomical observatory in Kansas . It is owned and operated by the Northeast Kansas Amateur Astronomers' League (NEKAAL) .

It is located on the premises of Mission Valley High School in Eskridge , Kansas , about 30 miles southwest of Topeka , in Wabaunsee County , and bears IAU number 734. The observatory was completed in 1996. Since then, the Farpoint Asteroid Search Team (FAST) has discovered more than 600 asteroids and the faintest comet ever identified by an amateur astronomer .

The main instrument is a Herschel telescope with a diameter of 27 inches, which is to be taken over by the University of Kansas with a grant from NASA .
