Masseteric fascia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The masseter muscle to the fascia masseterica covered is highlighted here in red.

The masseter fascia is the fascia of the masseter muscle . Its origins lie on the zygomatic arch , where it emerges from the temporal fascia , and on the frontal process of the upper jaw ( processus frontalis maxillae ). On the mandible , the fascia splits. One leaf merges caudally (rump), on the lower edge of the lower jaw, into the superficial neck fascia , the other extends over the medial pterygoid muscle . Laterally, the masseteric fascia connects with the parotid fascia . Together with the parotid fascia, it is also known as the parotideo-masseterica fascia .
