Parotid fascia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The parotid fascia , together with the masseteric fascia, forms a closed layer that covers the parotid gland , its duct ( parotid duct, Stenon's duct ) and the exiting branches of the facial nerve as fascia . It consists of two leaves: On the one hand, there is the superficial leaf ( lamina superficialis ), which merges into the cervical fascia , headward into the temporal fascia and laterally into the masseteric fascia, and which is attached to the zygomatic arch above and to the lower jaw below . On the other hand, from a deep leaf ( lamina profunda ), which covers the stylohyoid muscle , the styloglossus muscle and the stylopharyngeus muscle . With increasing weight, the fascia tends to split up.
