Pedigree of Hagen

history

The family name von or ab Hagen is of Germanic origin and means forest or forest hedge. The name is documented as early as the 12th and 13th centuries in the region between Soest and Paderborn . The von Hagen had large allodial and fiefdoms in the Geseker and Rüthener area, which can be considered a sign of old age and possibly of Saxon origin. The oldest Gesek official book, dated around 1350, contains the names of Johannes "Haghenen", Burhardus and "Syffridus Haghene". A copy from 1369 mentions a plot of land "in loco dicto Vulnershagen in Gesicke". Even today the gardens planted in the old city moat are called "Hagen". This suggests that the "von Hagen" family lived in Geseke long before 1350.

The family's ancestral home was in Düstergasse In Geseke, but today there is a Franciscan monastery . She stood in fiefdom to the Counts of Arnsberg and in the position of the so-called ministerial nobility to the archbishops in Cologne . Not only extensive real estate, but also family ties with the most respected families in Westphalian cities, make it clear that they belong to the leading social class. Josef Bender u. a. the Orth from Hagen, Grote, Schlaun, von Loen, von Bismarck , von Thülen and von Fürstenberg . In 1561 the family foundation was set up by Conrad Orth from Hagen , at the behest of Bernhard von Hagen . The Cologne High School and Foundation Fund , which maintains the register of descent to this day, specifies October 28, 1594 as the foundation date .
