Barrel heater
Drum heaters - also known as canister heaters or container heaters depending on the application - are used to heat and reduce the viscosity of substances and liquids in steel drums so that they can be easily filled or pumped into smaller containers, for example tar , paint , resin , fat and chocolate .
Depending on the design and performance of the heater, the heating time is between 10 and 48 hours for a 200 liter drum.
Designs
Fiberglass mats
In barrel heaters of this type, an insulated heating conductor is embedded in the glass fiber mats. A silicone coating on the outside or a polyester fabric prevents the penetration of moisture and chemicals. The version with silicone coating is suitable for steel barrels; if a polyester fabric is used, plastic containers can also be heated. The fiberglass mats are applied to the barrel like banderoles ; They are therefore also called band heaters. With commercially available drum heaters, up to three units per drum can be used.
Barrel heating jackets
Drum heating jackets are flexible drum heaters. They are characterized by the fact that they themselves have a cylindrical shape, which is exactly modeled on the barrel. In a flexible body made of technical textiles with different coatings (e.g. silicone, PTFE), insulation and the heating system including measurement technology are fully integrated. The three-dimensional design is the essential criterion for differentiation from the aforementioned glass fiber mats, which also include so-called heating jackets. Corresponding heating jackets of this type are also available for IBC containers.
Sheet steel drum bottom heater
A barrel heater made of sheet steel can heat a steel barrel from below, similar to a hotplate. With this type of heating, the barrel is usually also provided with an insulating hood to prevent it from cooling down. This design is suitable for temperatures up to 150 ° C.
Sheet steel jacket heater
The jacket heating acts like a cupboard into which the barrel is pushed. The contents of the heating jacket are heated by means of radiant heat. With jacket heating, higher temperatures can be reached than with barrel floor heating or glass fiber mat heating. Jacket heating can be laid out for the transport of the barrels by rollers on the underbody. If more than a single barrel fits into the heating device, it is also called a heating chamber.
Container heater
1000 liter IBC containers can also be heated with heating jackets or floor heating. The heating jackets usually have two separately controllable heating circuits so that even half-full containers can be heated optimally and in an energy-saving manner.
Steam or electric drum heater
When generating the heating energy, a distinction is made between steam drum heaters and electric drum heaters.
Steam drum heaters are restricted in their mobility due to the supply connections; however, in almost all industries, steam is available as a cost-effective energy carrier. The handling of steam drum heaters is also less problematic with regard to use in Ex areas ( ATEX ).
Electric drum heaters have the advantage that they are far superior to steam drum heaters in terms of flexibility and mobility.
