Father and Daughter is a 2002 song by Paul Simon that was originally written for the soundtrack to the Gooseberry Family Adventure .

background

Father and Daughter was written and produced by Paul Simon for the Gooseberry Family Adventure (2002). Simon wrote the song primarily about his relationship with his then seven-year-old daughter Lulu. The lyrics also fit Nigel Gooseberry and his daughter Eliza from the film. Simon's ten-year-old son Adrian can also be heard on the recording. While Simon was writing the song and listening to the first test recordings in the car, Adrian sang along loudly. So the singer-songwriter got the idea to let his son sing along.

The song is a calm acoustic ballad carried by a simple guitar riff.
