Fatima Ibrahim Didi

Fatima Ibrahim Didi (* 1918 ; † 2008 ) was a Maldivian princess and politician who was President of the Senate of the Maldives between 1953 and 1954 .

biography

Born Princess Fatima Tuttu Goma, she was the daughter of Princess Gulistan, daughter of the Sultan of the Maldives , and Al-Amir Ibrahim Fa'amuladeri Kilegefa'anu , a member of the Regency Council from 1943 to 1953.

When she was offered the throne in 1953 after a multi-year interregnum, she turned down her candidacy because of criticism from the clergy led by Abdullah Jalal ud-din . After the subsequent proclamation of the republic on January 1, 1953, she took over the office of President of the Senate and held this office until the end of the republic and the re-establishment of the sultanate on March 7, 1954. Her father was Prime Minister during this time as Ekgamuge Ibrahim Ali Didi and held this office until September 12, 1957.

Fatima Ibrahim Didi was married to Ahmed Zaki , who was the last Prime Minister of the Maldives between 1972 and 1975 and was twice permanent representative to the United Nations .
