Fatima Zahra El Hiyani (born July 23, 1996 in Sidi Slimane ) is a Moroccan cyclist who is active on track and road .

Athletic career

Fatima Zahra El Hiyani grew up as the daughter of a simple family in Sidi Slimane. Even as a child she liked to play soccer with the boys. When she finished elementary school, her father gave her a bicycle, which she used to ride ten kilometers to secondary school. After a flat tire, she went to a bicycle repair shop on the way; the owner was a son of the president of a cycling club and proposed to her to become a member of this club. In 2014 she took part in the Moroccan championships for the first time; the family supports their ambitions. In an interview from February 2016, she stated that she could not imagine a life on a bicycle because the bicycle is her "elixir of life".

In 2014 El Hiyani became Moroccan champion in the individual time trial on the road. At the African Cycling Championships in 2016 in her home country, she won three gold medals in the single pursuit , 500-meter time trial and team sprint (with Nadia Skoukdi ), and in the points race she took silver. She also started in the street disciplines, albeit less successfully. In 2018 she became two-time national champion in road races and time trials, in 2019 in road races. Also in 2019 she won bronze in the sprint at the African Championships .
