features

The moths reach a wingspan of 16 to 20 millimeters. The species is one of the more easily recognizable Yponomeuta species, as there is a black spot in the middle of the forewing. Another distinguishing feature is a blackish mark on the wing tip.

The caterpillars have an ocher yellow color with two rows of black dots on the back with one pair of dots per segment.

Way of life

The adult animals ( Imagines ) fly from June to August on bush-clad slopes , forest edges , parklands and gardens . The caterpillars spin themselves into a common web and live there from April to June. Sometimes they are so numerous on the bushes that the host plants are seriously damaged. The caterpillars' preferred food plants are the euonymus ( Euonymus europaeus ), the buckthorn ( Frangula alnus ) and the sloe ( Prunus spinosa ).
