Fedderate Castle is a ruined castle in the settlement of New Deer in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire . A drawbridge and a dam once provided access to the moat- enclosed castle.
The Tower House with an L-shaped floor plan was built by William de Crawford on the ruins of a building from the 13th century, which held the barony from 1474-1519. In 1690 Lord William Oliphant conquered the castle together with Jacobite forces and held it against the forces of Hugh Mackay for more than three weeks . In October he gave up. The castle was destroyed in the process. It has been a ruin since 1730.
Today, only two wall segments remain from what was once a four-story building with vaulted ceilings on the ground floor and the first floor. Historic Scotland has listed Fedderate Castle as a Category B Historic Building and is a Scheduled Monument .
