On October 28, 2016 crashed on the Federal Express Flight 910 ( Flight number : FX910) a cargo aircraft of the type McDonnell Douglas DC-10 upon landing at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport . Due to the amount of damage, the 44-year-old aircraft was written off as a total loss. The two crew members survived the incident without serious injuries.
plane
The McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10 ( registration number : N370FE, c / n : 46608, s / n : 26) was delivered to United Air Lines as a passenger aircraft on March 5, 1972 . The logistics company Federal Express took over the machine on October 25, 1997 and had it converted into a cargo aircraft in 1999. In 2003 the aircraft received a cockpit modification (see MD-10 ), which meant that it could be operated with only two pilots and without an additional flight engineer .
the accident
The aircraft completed a scheduled cargo flight from Memphis International Airport to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport , where it landed at 5:50 p.m. local time. When putting on the web 10L, the left broke main gear , so that the left engine was ground contact. Fire broke out due to the damage to the engine pylon. The DC-10 came to a standstill 1934 meters after the landing threshold at the edge of the railway. Here, 75 seconds later, a tank explosion occurred in the outer part of the left wing . The airport fire department reached the aircraft less than two minutes later.
