backgrounds

The association's secretariat is based in Brussels ; The association's president is Jukka Ruuska , who is also the president of OMX .

The Association of European Stock Exchanges was founded in 1974 as a small forum for stock exchanges in Europe and today has 25 full members, almost 40 stock exchanges and clearing houses from all EMU countries as well as Iceland , Norway and Switzerland , as well as some corresponding members from other non-EU countries . FESE cooperates with European regulators and custodian bank organizations and works closely with the European Association of Central Counterparty Clearing Houses (EACH) , the European association of clearing houses.

In addition to FESE, there is the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) , which represents the interests of stock exchanges worldwide.
