from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The island Federazija (literally " Federation "; Russian Остров Федерация , Ostrow Federazija; English Federation Island ) is a planned artificial island group in the shape of Russia off the coast of the Black Sea near Sochi in Russia. It is said to be 150 meters off the coast in front of the Maly Akhun Mountains and 15 kilometers from the city center of Sochi.

The archipelago will be 330 hectares, 2.5 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide. Seven large and twenty small, private islands of 20 hectares each are to be created. Outside there are three narrow islands as breakwaters. The plan provides for artificial gullies that follow the course of Russia's rivers; the mountains of Russia are to be drawn to scale.

Apartments, hotels, cultural and leisure facilities and recreational facilities are planned. Two million square meters are planned for leisure and recreation. This also includes offices, sanatoriums, an aqua park, a marina and 15 kilometers of sandy beaches. 25,000 people will be able to live there.

The traffic is conducted underground. Two tunnels and a footbridge connect the archipelago to the mainland.

The archipelago was planned by the Dutchman Erick van Egeraat . The project, which is estimated at the equivalent of 6.2 billion US dollars , was announced at the international investor fair in Sochi and confirmed by President Vladimir Putin . The project is being developed by M-Industries from St. Petersburg in cooperation with the Dutch engineering companies Witteveen & Bos and Van Oord .

There are similar projects with Palm Islands , The World , Dubai Waterfront (temporarily discontinued), Jumeirah Islands (inland), The Universe (this project is currently not being pursued further) in the Persian Gulf.
