The badminton was the first and only official journal publication in the sport of badminton in the GDR . It was the official organ of the German Badminton Association (DFV) and was published monthly by it. To distinguish between the game device shuttlecock and the sport of badminton, known in the GDR as shuttlecock, the publication was referred to in professional circles as the shuttlecock newspaper .

history

The first issue appeared in January 1960 with a length of 12 pages, which was also the standard length for the entire period of publication. The price for one issue was 0.75 marks. In the months of July and August, which were largely free of play in the GDR, two editions were often combined into a double edition. The magazine appeared exclusively in black and white, only the title page and some graphic elements were outlined in color. Issues of the shuttlecock were often only completed or delivered with a significant delay, so it was quite common not to receive an issue until the second month after the official release date. With the end of the GDR and DFV, the magazine was discontinued in December 1990 after 31 years, with the last issues of 1990 (5/6 to 11/12) under the new nameBadminton life published.
