Holidays in Poland

Public holidays in Poland are regulated by the Rest Day Act of January 18, 1951 ( Ustawa z dnia 18 stycznia 1951 o dniach wolnych od pracy ) - Journal of Laws, No. 4 of 1960, Article No. 28, pages 159 and 160, amended in 1990. Since the last change (2010, effective from 2011) Poland has 13 legally recognized public holidays .

November 11th state Polish Independence Day Narodowe Święto Niepodległości ( Dzień Niepodległości ) The occasion is the independence of the state in 1918 after 123 years of division by Prussia, Austria-Hungary and Russia.

National Holidays

The following days are national holidays in Poland, although they are not days off:

  • March 1st - National Remembrance Day of the Exiled Soldiers ( Narodowy Dzień Pamięci "Żołnierzy Wyklętych" ), since 2011
  • April 13 - Memorial Day of the Victims of the Katyn Massacre ( Dzień Pamięci Ofiar Zbrodni Katyńskiej )
  • May 9 - National Day of Victory Over the Third Reich. ( Narodowe Święto Zwycięstwa i Wolności ), since 1945
  • June 28 - National Memorial Day of the Poznań Uprising of 1956 ( Narodowy Dzień Pamięci Poznańskiego Czerwca 1956 ), on the anniversary of the Poznan Uprising in June 1956, since 2005
  • August 31 - Solidarity and Freedom Day ( Dzień Solidarności i Wolności ), on the anniversary of the conclusion of the August 1980 agreements
  • October 14 - National Education Day ( Dzień Edukacji Narodowej ), earlier Teachers ' Day , on the anniversary of the founding of the National Education Commission in 1773
  • October 16 - Pope John Paul II's Day ( Dzień Papieża Jana Pawła II ), since 2005

Earlier holidays

  • November 12, 2018 - one-time public holiday because Independence Day on the 100th anniversary falls on a Sunday (decision of the Sejm on October 23, 2018)
