The Eininghausen field bell from the north-west

The field bell Eininghausen is a free-standing bell of the parish of Börninghausen , a district of the East Westphalian town of Preußisch Oldendorf in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is a so-called field bell .

history

The Eininghausen field bell was built in 1840 and rings in a wooden mast in the Eininghausen district in the western part of the Eggetal . The bell is protected by a gable roof and has no inscription.

Location and function

It is located between the towns of Eininghausen and Büscherheide, directly on Eggetaler Straße, i.e. the main street of the valley and the confluence with Geisbergstraße on parcel no. 397, about 1600 m² in size, around 460 meters east of the state border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony.

This field bell is rung by hand if necessary. Essentially, it is a death knell for the districts of Eininghausen and Harlinghausen as well as the districts of Büscherheide and Markendorf in Lower Saxony . Immediately after the death becomes known, this bell is "clinked", i. H. a so-called half-pull bell is carried out. The day before the funeral, the bell rings for a quarter of an hour at twelve o'clock for the dead. In addition, the Eininghauser bell is rung at a new clock on the first holiday of the three major celebrations of Christmas, Easter and Pentecost, as well as at the turn of the year.
