Kurt Leo Shell

Kurt Leo Shell (born November 17, 1920 in Vienna ; † October 12, 2018 in Frankfurt am Main ) was an Austro-German political scientist .

Live and act

Kurt Leo Shell was born in November 1920 in Vienna to a liberal Jewish family. As a high school graduate, he emigrated to the USA via Great Britain. There he studied political science after his military service at Columbia University New York and received his doctorate there in 1955. From 1956 to 1967 he was professor of political science at the State University of New York at Binghampton , from 1967 until his retirement in 1986 he taught political science of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main .

The focus of his scientific work was North America research. In 1979 he co-founded the Center for North America Research (ZENAF) at the Goethe University in Frankfurt.
