review

Thomas Speckmann from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung attests to Schulz that with the book he succeeded in creating an “ impressive overall picture of the war in antiquity ”, which he even sees as a “ new standard work that should shape further research over many years ”.

The reviewer of the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Stephan Speicher, likes the idea, but thinks that the author is too bogged down in details. Nor is he entirely convinced of the necessity of the book.
