Felice Carena (born August 13, 1879 in Cumiana , † 1966 in Venice ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Felice Carena studied at the Accademia Albertina in Turin . He was a student of Giacomo Grosso . He dealt with symbolism , the art movement of the late 19th century, and often met intellectuals such as B. Arturo Graf . In 1906 he moved to Rome , where he quickly made contact with the most important artistic circles. He went on study trips all over Europe, u. a. Paris and Munich, and quickly made a name for himself, including at the Biennale di Venezia in 1912. Carena was influenced by artists such as Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse and taught at his own art school in Rome from 1922 and at the Florence Art Academy from 1924 . After the end of the Second World War he moved to Venice, where he lived until his death in 1966. Felice Carena received numerous prestigious art prizes (e.g. the Grand Prix of the Biennale 1940 , the Premio Marzotto 1956) and awards and was close to Giuseppe Roncalli , who later became Pope John XXIII. , friends.
