Rolf Seyfarth
Rolf Seyfarth (born April 18, 1907 in Apolda ; † September 8, 1976 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a German journalist , local politician and cycling organizer.
Life
Rolf Seyfarth completed a commercial apprenticeship and ran a textile wholesaler. From 1926 on, he was an amateur cyclist . From the beginning of the 1930s, Seyfarth also worked as a sports journalist. From 1938 until the end of the war, he organized cycling races on the cycling track in Chemnitz-Altendorf , but also in Erfurt , Bamberg, Forst and Braunschweig. Up to 18 races were held annually in front of tens of thousands of spectators on the Chemnitzer Bahn - especially in the 20s. Standing races were particularly popular .
As a soldier during World War II , Seyfarth was injured and taken to a hospital. During his recovery he wrote a book about his experiences as a race organizer. The book was not published until 2010. During the time of the GDR a publication was rejected because it was mainly about the then frowned upon professional cycling. When there was hardly any news about professional cycling there in the GDR, he regularly published racing reports in the West German specialist journal "Radsport".
After the war, Seyfarth was also politically active in Chemnitz. As a member of the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany , he was mayor and department head for public utilities and trams from 1946 to 1949 and city councilor for trade and supply from 1949 to 1960. Seyfarth belonged to the People's Chamber of the GDR from 1950 to 1954 . From 1960 to 1972 he was the head of the district editorial office of the LDPD daily newspaper “ Sächsisches Tageblatt ” in Chemnitz.
In the autumn of 1946 a commission for professional cycling in the Soviet occupation zone was founded, which was headed by him and Herbert Nebe .
In 1950 Seyfarth initiated the construction of the Chemnitz Radrennbahn at the Sportforum, the curves of which were piled up from rubble. In 1960, the Stayer World Championships were held on this track in the Sportforum Chemnitz , which still exists today .
The estate of Rolf Seyfarth has been in the Chemnitz Schloßbergmuseum since 2009 . These include numerous film scenes shot by Seyfarth, in which Jutta Müller and her daughter Gaby Seyfert (as a three-year-old) can be seen.
