history

The Sportforum Chemnitz emerged from the facilities of the Südkampfbahn built in 1926. 1928 took place with the game of Chemnitzer BC against Hamburger SV (4: 2) the inauguration. Even before that, provisional sporting events were held on this site from 1921. Between 1933 and 1938 the Südkampfbahn was expanded and renamed "Großkampfbahn". Between 1938 and 1945 it was used as a parade ground and flak position. After 1945, the ruins of the city center were brought into the area, whereupon a cycling track was laid out from 1950. In the same year it was renamed “Ernst-Thälmann-Stadion”. The facility has been known as the “Sportforum” since German reunification. In the sports forum, Chemnitzer FC occasionally played its home games and all European cup games.

Today the Sportforum is the training ground of the CFC as well as partially the venue of its second team, the women's team and the youth teams.
