Felipe de Jesús Munárriz Azcona CMF (born February 4, 1875 in Alló ( Navarra ), † August 1936 in Barbastro ) was a Spanish religious priest . He is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Felipe de Jesús Munárriz was director of the Claretian seminary in Barbastro . He was shot together with 42 seminarians and eight other priests shortly after the beginning of the Spanish Civil War , between August 2 and 18, 1936. Among the victims were, in addition to the members of the seminary, Ceferino "El Pelé" Giménez Malla , the first blessed Gypsy, and Florentino Asensio Baroso , the bishop of Barbastro. On October 25, 1992, Pope John Paul II beatified Felipe de Jesús ús Munárriz Azcona.
