Felix Hirsch

Felix Eduard Hirsch (born February 7, 1902 in Berlin , † December 12, 1982 in Newtown, PA) was a German journalist, historian and librarian.

Education

Hirsch studied history in Berlin and at Heidelberg University . He received his doctorate in 1924 under Hermann Oncken ; In 1940 in American exile he made a bachelor's degree in library science at Columbia University .

Active in Germany until 1933

From 1924 to 1933 Hirsch was a political editor at Rudolf Mosse Verlag . He wrote for the newspaper Achtuhr Abendblatt (National-Zeitung) and the Berliner Tageblatt, which appeared in this publishing house . He also provided articles for the Frankfurter Zeitung , the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the Prussian yearbooks, among others . Because he had revealed in the Achtuhr Abendblatt that the judge Kurt Soelling was a converted Jew, Hirsch was charged with defamation.

Active in the United States of America from 1935

Hirsch emigrated in 1935 to the United States, where he at Bard College of Columbia University taught. In 1955 he became a professor of history at Trenton State College in New Jersey . In 1962 he was visiting professor for history at the Technical University of Heidelberg .

With his wife Elizabeth Feist (⚭ November 6, 1938) he had two sons: Roland (* 1939) and Thomas (* 1942).
