The rock carvings of Ballinloughan are in the townland of the same name ( Irish Baile an Locháin ) 1.6 km north of Little Ash on the road to Inniskeen near Dundalk in County Louth in Ireland . (There is also a townland of the same name in County Antrim , Northern Ireland .)

Originally there were five rocks here with cup-and-ring markings , three of which were vandalized in 1980. They had the ring design, which is rare in Ireland, as shown by the rock carvings by Ormaig in Argyll and Bute in Scotland . The bowls ( English cups ) on the stone and on some of the other in a series of petroglyphs in Louth and Monaghan were clearly visible and easy to find. Another stone is in the National Museum in Dublin.
