history

In 1990 the first Alphavision AG studios were built in an old carpenter's workshop in Wangen near Olten . The first broadcasts were broadcast in 1991 during the regional television test in the Olten Antenne current region . The broadcast dates were June 10th, 17th, 24th and July 1st, each from 6:30 p.m.

Starting in February 1992, the program was broadcast regularly on Sundays in the Zurich regional network (“Teleziitig-Kanal” / “Forum Züri”). In the same year the Christian TV Foundation was founded, to which the Swiss Evangelical Alliance, the Free Church Association VFG and individuals belonged.

Although the sponsoring committee tried to get a national broadcasting license as early as 1993, the granting was delayed again and again for various reasons. On May 10, 1995, the Federal Council granted Alphavision a license limited to two years and set up a ten-person commission of experts to monitor the content of the broadcast. The Federal Council feared that the program could come into conflict with religious freedom.

The first national broadcast took place on Sunday, September 17, 1995 on Switzerland 4 .

On May 12, 1997, the cooperation agreement was signed with the SRG , which contained an assurance that it would be broadcast twice per weekend (Saturday and Sunday). On May 15, a new license application was submitted to the Federal Council.

On 6./7. In September 1997 the broadcast started on SF 2. Although still under the old license, but with new conditions. On November 5, 1997, the Federal Council granted a definitive license with a term of 5 years (from January 1, 1998 to December 31, 2002). On October 30, 2002, the Federal Council extended the existing definitive license to December 31, 2008. A year later, Media Vision began to rearrange the contributions in High German for broadcast on Bible TV with its own moderation.

In October 2008, SRG and Alphavision AG extended their contract for a further five years. The contract comes into force on January 1, 2009. A license is no longer necessary under the new RTVG. The cooperation with SRG will continue for a further 5 years from January 1, 2014.

The market share of Windows on Sunday reached 5.5 percent in 2015, which corresponds to around 70,000 viewers per weekend. Over 1,000 programs have been produced since 1995, reaching around 60 million views.
