The DAFG - German-Arab Friendship Society is a non-profit association based in Berlin and was founded in 2007. The DAFG e. V. sees itself as a non-partisan initiative and does not appear as a political actor or party in political conflicts.

aims

The DAFG - German-Arab Friendship Society e. V. would like to develop and promote understanding, trust and cooperation between Germany and the states of the Arab League on a friendly basis . This should be done, among other things, by improving information and communication among each other. For this purpose the DAFG e. V. works closely with the embassies of the Arab countries in Germany and with a large number of civil society organizations and government agencies.

Fields of work

The association would like to devote itself to German-Arab relations in a comprehensive sense. From this goal she derives the following four fields of work: (1) Politics; (2) economic cooperation; (3) Culture, Education & Science; (4) Media & Communication.

Politics: The association sees itself as a promoter of political exchange between Germany and the Arab countries. It organizes lectures, panel discussions and background discussions with the aim of deepening the understanding of the state, political and social structures and providing comprehensive information to its members and supporters who are interested in the region.

Working field economic cooperation: The association sees itself as a link between politics and business in Germany and the Arab partner countries. In events it provides information about developments in the economy, potential business areas and investment opportunities. His work also includes organizing business delegation trips to Arab countries.

Field of work culture, education & science: The association regards art and culture as well as education and science as important elements for deepening the understanding and friendship between Germany and the Arab world. With exhibitions, lecture series, cultural evenings and a German-Arabic Jour Fixe for students and young professionals, the DAFG e. V. promote the exchange between cultures. It also cooperates with Arabic and German educational institutions to promote student exchanges and joint university programs and research projects. The organization also offers beginner and advanced Arabic courses aimed at individuals and businesses.

Media & Communication: By networking German and Arab media and journalists, the association aims to inspire and intensify mutual reporting on German-Arab topics. The association also organizes public discussion evenings on relevant topics in the media sector. In addition, DAFG eV publishes a German-Arabic picture dictionary on its website.

General meeting

According to the association's statutes, the ordinary general assembly is entitled to the exclusive resolution on the election of the members of the board, the approval of the budget and the discharge of the board, the amendment of the statutes, the election of two auditors and a deputy, as well as the dissolution of the association.

The board is responsible for the administration and use of the association's funds. It is composed of the President, four Vice-Presidents and the Treasurer; Representatives from the German Bundestag and other board members.

Advisory Board

There is also an advisory board to which, by virtue of their office, all Arab ambassadors belong. The chairman of the advisory board is the doyen of the Arab ambassadors. In coordination with the chairman of the advisory board, the board appoints other personalities from business, politics, culture, science and the media as advisory boards.

Office

The office is u. a. responsible for the implementation of the annual program and the board resolutions. Björn Hinrichs is the managing director.
