Alexander Gamal Radwan (born August 30, 1964 in Munich ) is a German politician ( CSU ) and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 .

Alexander Radwan was born in 1964 to a Christian Egyptian and a German. After completing his mechanical engineering degree in the field of aircraft as a graduate engineer (FH) in 1987, Radwan studied law and passed the second state examination in 1995 . He then worked in a global company in the information and telecommunications sector, initially as an employee and then as a department head. He was admitted as since 1995 lawyer .

He began his political career in 1988 as the district chairman of the Junge Union Miesbach. From 1994 to 1999 he was district chairman of the Junge Union Oberbayern and from 2000 to 2003 he was also president of the Junge Alpenregion .

From 1999 to 2008 Radwan was a member of the European Parliament and a member of the executive committee of the European People's Party . There he was the coordinator of the EPP-ED group in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs as well as deputy chairman of the delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries. He is one of the founding members of the German European Security Association founded in 2006 .

Alexander Radwan has been the Upper Bavarian District Chairman of the Mittelstands-Union (MU) since 2002 and a member of the state board of the MU Bavaria. From 2005 to 2011, as the state treasurer, he was also a member of the party executive committee and presidium of the CSU. In addition, he is a member of the CSU executive boards at local, district and district level. He has been the district chairman in the Miesbach district since 2014.

In the state election in Bavaria in 2008 , Radwan won the direct mandate in the constituency of Miesbach ( constituency of Upper Bavaria ) for the CSU with 43.1% . He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013. Radwan is directly elected MP for constituency 223, which includes the districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach. In the 2017 Bundestag election he was re-elected as a member of the Bundestag with 47.6% of the first votes. He is a full member of the Finance Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee .

As a reporter at the federal level, he deals with the topics of banking union and banking supervision, euro and currency, payments, international banking policy, fintechs and the Near and Middle East.

Other offices

Radwan has been a member of the Presidium of the Economic Advisory Council of the Union e. V. , since 2004 managing director of the Studiengesellschaft für Mittelstandsfragen e. V. and since 2014 member of the board of the German-Arab Friendship Society (DAFG e.V.) From 2013 to 2015 he was also a member of the executive committee of the German Red Cross . In addition, he has been chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Pastor Walter Waldschütz Foundation since 2013 . Radwan has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) since 2018.

Radwan is a member of the Kangaroo Group , a think tank and lobby organization based in Brussels.

Radwan is also a member of the non-partisan European Union Germany , which is committed to a federal Europe and the European unification process.
