Bernhard Rapkay

Bernhard Rapkay (born January 8, 1951 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German politician. From 1994 to 2014 he was a MEP for the SPD in the Social Democratic Group in the EP .

His duties and responsibilities included his membership in the Legal Committee and his deputy for the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. He was also a member of the delegation in the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly and in the delegation in the EU-Chile Joint Parliamentary Committee and deputy for the delegation in the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.

Career

At the beginning of his professional career there were various professional activities in adult education , public relations and project management. In the period from 1991 to 1999 he held a large number of SPD function offices, for example he was a member of the Western Westphalia district council. Since 1978 he was a member of the board of the SPD Dortmund, from 1991 to 1999 chairman.

His political career continued through his membership in the SPD state executive committee of North Rhine-Westphalia, the state presidium and as deputy chairman of the SPD federal party council. Eventually he became chairman of the SPD group in the European Parliament.
