He was Prime Minister-designate of Lebanon from August 31, 2020 to September 26, 2020 . Adib is considered a close confidante of the former Prime Minister Najib Miqati .

Life

Adib studied political science at the University of Montpellier and, after completing his doctorate in law and political science, taught constitutional and international public law as well as international relations at various universities in Lebanon and France. From 2000 he was professor of constitutional law, international law, political parties and lobbies, international relations and political science at the Lebanese University .

From 2000 to 2004 he worked as an advisor to the Lebanese Minister for Public Works and Transport, Najib Miqati.

In 2004, he became president of the Center for Strategic Studies for the Middle East (CESMO) and operational studies for the Generic Center for Civilian Control of Armed Forces of the United Nations . He also lectured as a visiting professor for geopolitics at the University of Poitiers and was during this time co-director of the bi-university master’s course "Territorial Administration" at the University of Montpellier and the Université Libano-Francaise .

In 2011, Najib Miqati, now Prime Minister, appointed Mustapha Adib as head of cabinet. Previously, from 2005 to 2006, he had represented the Prime Minister in the special committee for the development of the new electoral law. From July 18, 2013, he was Lebanon’s ambassador to Germany and doyen of the Arab diplomatic corps.

Attempt to form a government

After Adib's nomination for the country's new Prime Minister was approved by ex-Prime Ministers Saad Hariri , Fouad Siniora , Najib Miqati, Tammam Salam and the Lebanese Future Movement Party , he was appointed on August 30, 2020 and elected the following day. His predecessor Hassan Diab resigned after the explosion in Beirut , in the wake of the ongoing economic crisis in Lebanon and the ongoing protests in Lebanon .

Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adib resigned on September 26, 2020, almost a month after being appointed head of cabinet. According to Lebanese government circles, the main reason for Adib's resignation is the dispute between Lebanese parties over the appointment of finance minister.
