Ferdinand Schladen (born May 24, 1939 in Bonn ) is a former German shot putter .

He was eighth at the European Indoor Championships in 1973 and 1974. He was German indoor champion, but never German outdoor champion. He came in second three times. Ferdinand Schladen achieved his personal best in the shot put of 20.40 m in Aachen on August 8, 1972 as part of an official pre-Olympic match with Asian athletes. At the time, this was a new record for the Federal Republic of Germany. Despite protests, Ferdinand Schladen did not take part in the Olympic Games taking place in Munich that year due to internal disputes. He is currently 25th in the all-time German best list.

Ferdinand Schladen only started exercising on medical advice in 1959 when he was 2.03 m tall because of back problems. In 1961, at the age of 22, he already achieved a North Rhine-Westphalia record with 51.77 m in the discus throw . In the discus throw he was nominated in the 1960s for a number of international matches and the 1964 Olympic elimination in Rome. His best distance in the discus was 56.40 m. He started at KTV Bonn and was registered with LC Bonn until the end. He had the greater success in the shot put. In 1982, at the age of 42, he ended his shot put career with third place at the German Championships.

Until recently, Ferdinand Schladen has repeatedly pointed out publicly on many occasions that, in contrast to almost all other competitors - who also admitted this - he had never taken prohibited substances such as anabolic steroids. Of the top West German people, he was the only one who always tested negative during training controls. These controls remained unknown until the 1990s. From this point of view, Schladen's achievements should also be rated significantly higher internationally. In this respect, he rightly sees himself as having been cheated by doping.
