Ferdinando Cazzamalli (* 1887 in Crema ; † 1958 ) was an Italian psychiatrist who sought scientific research into paranormal phenomena.

Initially head of a psychiatric clinic in Como , then lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Modena , Cazzamalli, together with electrical engineer Eugenio Gnesutta, carried out studies on mentally disturbed patients to determine the physical detectability of telepathy . With the help of a device specially developed for this purpose for measuring ultra-high frequency waves , he pursued the goal of explaining telepathic phenomena as the electromagnetic effects of brain activity . In experiments with a radio receiver that was locked in a Faraday cage , he then succeeded in recording paranormal voice phenomena, which he believed he could trace back to electromagnetic influences on the part of his test subjects.

In 1937, together with the statistician Giovanni Schepis, the psychologist Emilio Servadio and the neuropsychiatrist Luigi Sanguineti, he founded the Società Italiana di Metapsichica (SIM), the first Italian society for the systematic research of paranormal phenomena, which became official by a decree of May 23, 1941 Received recognition from the Italian fascist state and was renamed Società Italiana di Parapsicologia (SIP) in 1955 . In 1946 he founded the magazine Metapsichica as the official organ of the SIM Due to ideological and methodological differences, however, there was a serious rift with the SIM that year Cazzamalli resigned with his parliamentary group and in the same year founded the Associazione Italiana Scientifica di Metapsichica (AISM) who continued the magazine Metapsichica under his direction and which together with the Centro Studi Parapsicologici (CSP) founded in Bologna in 1954 is one of the most important institutions in the field of parapsychology in Italy .
