Memorial at the place of death of Fergal O'Hanlon and Seán South.

Fergal O'Hanlon ( Irish : Feargal Ó hAnnluain ; born February 2, 1936 in Ballybay , County Monaghan , † January 1, 1957 in Altawark near Brookeborough , County Fermanagh ) was a member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA).

O'Hanlon was born in County Monaghan near the Northern Ireland border in 1936 and joined the IRA at an early age. As part of the Border Campaign , he and other members of the IRA, including Seán South and Seán Garland , carried out an attack on a Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) base in Brookeborough. The operation failed, however, and both O'Hanlon and Seán South were seriously injured in the ensuing exchange of fire with RUC officers. The IRA command fled by truck towards the border with the Republic of Ireland . While still in Northern Ireland, O'Hanlon and South were left in a cowshed; the other IRA members were able to cross the border on foot. O'Hanlon and South died in the stable, which had recently been machine-shot at by RUC police. The actual cause of O'Hanlon's death is uncertain; it is considered likely that his injuries, which he had already suffered in Brookeborough, were fatal.

O'Hanlon was buried in Monaghan , Republic of Ireland , with great public participation . The song The Patriot's Game of Dominic Behan is based on the death O'Hanlon.
