The Ferguson Peak is a 560  m high mountain on the eastern end of South Georgia . It rises just west of the head end of Cooper Bay .

The British ornithologist Niall Rankin photographed the mountain during a visit to South Georgia in 1947. Rankin hid the location of the photo because he wanted to protect the seal colony, which was then located in Cooper Bay, from access by British seal hunters. The location was achieved by participants in an expedition to South Georgia that lasted from 1954 to 1955. They named the mountain as Fur Seal Peak ( English for fur seal peak ). Since Bird Island at the western end of South Georgia was home to the last fur seal colony, this name was misleading. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the mountain in 1957 after the Scottish geologist David Ferguson (1857-1936), who carried out geological studies on South Georgia between 1911 and 1912 on behalf of the company Christian Salvesen & Co.
