Fernand Rau (born October 7, 1940 in Hesperingen , † June 2, 1994 in Luxembourg City ) was a Luxembourg economist and politician.

Life

As a bank clerk and from 1965 to 1970 as a business journalist, he worked for Luxemburger Wort . From 1972 to 1978 he was a university lecturer.

In 1979 he was elected to the Luxembourg Parliament for the first time in his political career for the Christian Social People's Party . After a dispute sparked in November 1992 about his promised position as a member of the European Commission , which he was ultimately denied, he and his wife Hilda Rau-Scholtus left the party and became a member of the Alternatives Party in March 1993 Democratic Reform Party (ADR).

His wife was one of the leading figures in the criminal organization Engel Albert Sekt . After the death of her husband on June 2, 1994, who was run over by a truck for reasons that were as yet unexplained , she founded the Neutral Onofhangeg Human Rights Party , or NOMP for short.

The law Loi Rau ( Loi visant à favoriser les investissements productifs des entreprises et la création d'emplois au moyen de la promotion de l'épargne mobilière ) is named after him, which was adopted by France and Belgium as a model for similar laws .
