Fernando Alonso (aerospace engineer)

Fernando Alonso (born March 11, 1956 in Madrid ) is a Spanish aerospace engineer and head of the military aircraft division of Airbus Defense and Space . As a test engineer, he was a crew member on the first flights of the A340-200 in April 1992, the A319 in August 1997, the A380 in April 2005 and the A350 XWB in June 2013.

Life

After attending Atlantic College , one of the United World Colleges , Fernando Alonso studied aeronautical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid . He began his professional career in 1979 in the flight test department at McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, California . Here he also obtained his pilot's license .

In 1982 he moved to Airbus in the flight testing department . During his time at Airbus he attended l'Ecole du Personnel Navigant d'Essais et de Réception (EPNER) in 1990 and graduated as a flight test engineer . He then took on responsibility for aircraft performance for the A330 , A340 and A321 aircraft . From 1995 to 2002, during the test program of the A319, A330-200 , A340-500 and A340-600 , he was responsible for the development of flight controls and flight behavior. In 2002 he became head of flight testing. As a result of the A400M breakdown series, he took over the helm of the military aviation division at Airbus in early 2015.

Fernando Alonso has been a Fellow of the Air and Space Academy since 2009.
