Fernando José Cabrera (born November 16, 1981 in Toa Baja , Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican baseball player who has been under contract with the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball since 2009 .

Career

Cabrera was selected in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland Indians in the tenth round, where he was awarded a contract in August of the same year. For the Indians he made his debut in the MLB on April 20, 2004, for which he was active in the following four years. In the 2007 and 2008 seasons he played for the Baltimore Orioles , which did not extend his contract and released him on September 5, 2008.

On January 27, 2009, he signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox .

International

For Puerto Rico, Cabrera took part in the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic .
