The long-distance bus station Frankfurt am Main (short: Frankfurt am Main ZOB ) is a bus station located immediately south of the main train station, which has been bundling the long-distance bus stops previously distributed along the roadside at simple bus platforms since April 9, 2019.

With the opening of the inner-German long-distance bus market in 2013, long-distance buses in Frankfurt, in addition to the long-standing stop for international lines directly at the main train station, have additional spaces to the south around the large parking lot Hauptbahnhof Süd in Mannheimer Straße, Stuttgarter Straße and Pforzheimer Straße assigned. Since the bus stops were on the side of the road, in some cases right next to the tram tracks, this was not a permanent and satisfactory solution. There was a lack of a covered waiting room, toilets, etc. An increased traffic flow with regular traffic jams for private and local public transport was noticeable. For this reason, the city of Frankfurt am Main decided to build a long-distance bus station on a section of the large car park between Mannheimer Strasse, Stuttgarter Strasse, Pforzheimer Strasse and Karlsruher Strasse. The operator of the bus station is Flixmobility GmbH , which operates under the brand name Flixbus and is based in Munich .

Since the intention from the beginning was to preserve the size of the car parking spaces available on the site, a temporary parking garage was built first. This replaces the parking spaces in the open air, which have been omitted due to the development of the area. The parking garage was opened in March 2016, so that construction of the actual bus station could then begin. In the basement of this parking garage there is a bicycle parking facility and a bicycle workshop. The bus station has 14 bus platforms for changing passengers. The long-term plan is to build a 100-meter high-rise including an underground car park at the site of the temporary parking garage.

In 2016, the first three bus platforms at the long-distance bus station went into operation, and in February 2017 a container with a customer office and ticket sales by Flixbus was set up on the premises. To provide better weather protection for waiting passengers, two weather shelters were installed on the site of the long-distance bus station in September 2017.

Due to the close proximity of the main train station, the connection to long-distance rail traffic and local traffic , to all S-Bahn lines , the U4 and U5 underground lines , the 11, 12, 16, 17 and 21 tram lines as well as the city and Regional bus traffic is available (see also local traffic in Frankfurt am Main ).

The opening of the long-distance bus station - originally planned for the end of 2015 - was expected in early 2019; On the ground floor of the neighboring, new Intercity Hotel , which opened on December 1, 2018, there will be space for ticket sales, waiting areas, as well as sanitary and service facilities. On April 9, 2019, the 14 simple bus platforms without roofing, without toilets, without waiting rooms and with a ticket office container went into operation.
