The Almaty TV tower stands on the mountain Kök-Töbe (Kazakh for: green hill ) in the Kazakh city of Almaty .
The tower, built in the vertical cantilever construction , is 371.5 meters high and has two operating floors, 146 meters and 252 meters high, which can be reached via two elevators. However, it is not open to the public.
The tower was built between 1975 and 1983 by the architects Tersiev, Savchenko, Akimow and Ostrumow.
In contrast to many similar television towers, it is not a concrete but a tubular steel construction. It is the tallest free-standing tubular steel structure in the world. Since Almaty is particularly prone to earthquakes, the television tower was designed to withstand tremors up to a magnitude of 10 on the Richter scale .
