Ferocactus diguetii is a species of the genus Ferocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Ferocactus diguetii grows individually with columnar shoots and reaches heights of up to 4 meters with a diameter of 40 centimeters. There are 25 to 35 ribs that are up to 3 centimeters high and become wavy with age. The four to eight, up to 5 centimeters long spines are pure yellow to reddish gray and cannot be divided into central and radial spines.

The funnel-shaped, red flowers reach a length of up to 4 centimeters and have the same diameter. The up to 3 centimeters long fruits tear open with a basal pore.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Ferocactus diguetii is distributed on islands in the Mexican state of Baja California in the Gulf of California .

It was first described as Echinocactus diguetii in 1898 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Ferocactus in 1922 .

A distinction is made between the following varieties :

Ferocactus diguetii var. Carmenensis G.E. Linds.
Ferocactus diguetii var. Diguetii

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
