The hard Biou is a festival in Arbois , a town in the French department of Jura in the region of Franche-Comté , which is celebrated on the first Sunday in September.

history

The Biou, the origin of the name Biou is unknown, is linked to a story in the Old Testament . Moses sent men to explore the land of Canaan : "And they came as far as the Eskol brook, and there they cut off a branch with a bunch of grapes, and had them carried by two on a stick ..." (Moses 13: 23-24 )

Festival Biou

The festival and the 80 to 100 kilo veal grape, which is made from white and red grapes on the occasion of this festival , is called Biou . The winemakers in the area donate the most beautiful grapes to create the Biou. On the first Sunday in September, in honor of St. Just, the patron of the city of Arbois, made a parade through the city with the Biou. At the end the Biou is blessed and hung up in the church . The winemakers thank the Lord for the good harvest. The Biou festival is a special kind of harvest festival .
