The festival hall including gate structures and open spaces in Kärntner Straße 46-50 in Stuttgart-Feuerbach is a building by Paul Bonatz and Friedrich Eugen Scholer , which has been a listed building since 1992 .

history

The history of the gymnasium and festival hall is linked to that of the Leibniz Gymnasium , which emerged from a once privately run secondary school. Due to the lack of space at the beginning of the 20th century at the Königliche Realschule with around 450 pupils, the architect Paul Bonatz was commissioned by the Feuerbach town council to design a school building. At the same time the order to design a festival hall was issued.

Bonatz and Friedrich Eugen Scholer designed the building, which shows features of Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau and was built in 1911 and 1912. Wilhelm Weigel created the ornamental decorative painting on the beamed ceiling inside.

The hall was first used in 1912 as an exhibition area for the commercial and industrial exhibition. Later it served as a gymnasium and festival hall for the community. It survived the Second World War slightly damaged. In 1975 the demolition of the structure was discussed; after a clear contradiction, a general refurbishment including the addition of rooms for the kitchen and club rooms was decided in 1979 instead. This renovation and expansion took place between 1980 and 1982. Since then, the hall has had two younger side wings and a porch.

The free-standing festival hall also has an accessible roof terrace. It is connected by a staircase to a lower seat. There are two smaller pillars at the entrance to this square.

The hall is used by clubs and other organizations for events. The outdated interior, such as lighting and stage technology, should be renovated from 2014.
