The Kamerlengo Fortress ( Croatian Gradina Kamerlengo , Kula Kamerlengo and Kaštel Kamerlengo ) is a castle and fortress in Trogir , Croatia . It was built in the 15th century during the Venetian Republic .

history

Historical view of the fortress

Soon after the city was taken over by the Republic of Venice in 1420, the fortress was built by Mayor Marin Radojev according to the plans of the Venetian military engineer Pincino da Bergamo . It is part of the extensions to the Veriga Tower ( Tower of chains ), which was built on the same site in 1380.

The outer walls were once decorated with the coats of arms of Pietro Loredan , a Venetian admiral, the Doge Francesco Foscari and Trogir's Prince Magdaleno Contarini .

Originally the fortress was surrounded by a moat and a large rampart supported the defense of the castle on the north and east sides. The main entrance on the north side had a drawbridge. The lord of the castle and his crew lived in houses in the castle courtyard. They were destroyed in the 19th century along with the Chapel of St. Mark.
