The fortress of Harilaq ( Albanian Kalaja e Harilaqit resp. Harilaçit or Kështjella e Harilaqit , Serbian Градина Gradina ) is a fortress in the south of the village of Harilaq near Fushë Kosova in central Kosovo . It is located at an altitude of 766 m and is nine kilometers southwest of the city of Fushë Kosova and only two kilometers west of Pristina Airport . The entire area is approximately 1.3 hectares. The excavations started in 2005 and were carried out by the Museum of Kosovo and the Archaeological Institute of Kosovo. They preserved and reconstructed some elements of the fortress in order to maintain it. During the work, numerous works, foundations and remains of functional buildings were discovered. The entire surface of the castle, including the circular ramparts, measures around 1.3 hectares.
The leaders of the castle controlled a large area overlooking a large area of Kosovo. Parts of the municipalities of Fushë Kosova , Pristina , Obiliq , Lipjan , Ferizaj , Shtime and Drenas can be clearly seen .
