The Feuerbachhaus is a museum dedicated to the Feuerbach family at Allerheiligenstrasse 9 in Speyer . The property has a baroque garden and borders the old city wall . The archaeologist Joseph Anselm Feuerbach lived there with his family for 10 years. His son, the famous painter Anselm Feuerbach , was born in this house.

history

The Feuerbachhaus was built around 1800, expanded in 1848 by an extension to the front building and acquired by the city of Speyer in 1912. The economic conditions did not allow the maintenance of the property in the years, only the installation of a plaque next to the entrance door in the commemorative years 1929/30. The city council then decided in 1967 to demolish the run-down house, but this was prevented by a citizens' initiative . The association “Feuerbachhaus e. V. “finally saved the house from being demolished and turned it into a memorial and museum. The project was financially supported by numerous citizens and businesses, the city of Speyer and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . The garden of the Feuerbachhaus was restored to its original state in 1987 by a garden architect .

exhibition

On the ground floor there is a dining room, meeting, exhibition and conference rooms. More than 30 original paintings and drawings by the painter, as well as autographs , documents and books by the family are exhibited on the upper floor . A documentation shows the most important main works by Anselm Feuerbach as photo reproductions and diagrams. The Feuerbachhaus also has a study library and an archive.
