Montmorin is a commune in the French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the Puy-de-Dôme . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand and the Canton of Billom . The municipality, which is three kilometers south-east of Billom on the edge of the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park , covers 13.65 square kilometers at 370 to 703 m above sea level . It has 722 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

history

The place with the original name "Mons Maurinus" lies in the shadow of a fortress from the 12th and 13th centuries, the cradle of the powerful local nobility of Montmorin, which was destroyed in 1634 on the orders of Richelieu .
